Can you place a kitchen island or heavy cabinets on a vinyl floor?

We strongly recommend placing heavy objects (such as built-in cabinets or a kitchen island) before installing the floor, depending on the type of flooring:

  • For click floors: These are installed floating and must be able to expand and shrink as the temperature changes. Heavy objects such as a kitchen island or large in-built cabinet would block the floor. As a result, an expansion joint of at least 5 mm must always be provided between Floorify and the object. By heavy objects, we mean objects heavier than 1000 kg and/or that exert a load greater than 50 kg/cm².

  • For gluedown floors: These are glued directly to the subfloor, forming a solid and stable surface. As such, they can be installed under heavy objects, like a kitchen island or built-in cabinet, without the need for an expansion gap around fixed furniture.

TIP: with many modern kitchens and in-built cabinets, you can seamlessly finish the floor by playing with the skirting.
