How can I compensate for a difference in height between rooms?

There are different ways to compensate height differences between rooms. The options will depend on the extent of the difference.

Our preference would always be to level or pour screed or sand cement, but there are other options. Ask a local dealer for advice.

Adjusting to a height difference

If there is a difference in height between the room in which the Floorify is being installed and adjacent rooms where there is no Floorify, there will be a difference in height of 5.5 to 6.5 mm. To compensate for this, you can use an adaptor profile.

Raising the floor

Imagine that you want to install a vinyl floor in the living room, but the existing floor/screed is lower than 5.5 or 6.5 mm when compared to the adjacent room (e.g. kitchen).  To compensate for the difference in height and bring the floor to the same height as the adjacent room, you could choose to raise the floor.

There are a number of solutions according to the difference:

  • Small (< 5 mm)

    • Levelling

    • Hard panels (not compressible) (e.g. Multiplex*, etc.)

  • Large (> 5 mm)

    • Screed

    • Multiplex*

    • OSB panels*

    • Thicker subfloors suitable for click PVC floors (Please note! When using a different subfloor and in case of damage to the floor related to a different subfloor, the warranty on the floor will be void).

If boards such as Multiplex* and OSB* are used, they must be firmly attached to the subfloor by gluing to the screed or screwing to the existing floor.

*OSB and Multiplex panels are available in different thicknesses.
